For 30 years, Kevin has been deeply involved in hydroacoustics. He led a team that pioneered the use of hydroacoustic instruments in rivers and estuaries. This work transformed streamflow measurements in the USGS and around the world. His work included development of innovative applications of acoustic instruments for rivers, development of new methods, training hydroacoustic methods, and providing technical support in hydroacoustic methods.  He served as the National Coordinator for Hydroacoustics in the USGS until his retirement.

Kevin has extensive experience in measuring floods and has measured many of the great rivers of the world including the Amazon, Paraná, and Mississippi River. He is also knowledgeable of streamgaging practices and methods, streamgage operation, and streamflow records.

Kevin continues to work with colleagues and friends in Argentina, Canada, Uruguay, Peru, Brazil, Norway, Sweden, the UK and elsewhere.
